Thankful Thursday #5 – Adventures

Today I’m thankful for adventures in life! This last-minute trip to Germany for treatment a Infusio has been one of the biggest adventures of my life.

Tomorrow marks one week since our arrival in Frankfurt, and it’s been a very unique, and exciting experience. I’ve done things I never imagined like visit Germany, eat Grie Soß, have multiple IV infusions in one day, and get almost a half pint of blood drawn at a stem cell clinic (more about that experience in tomorrow’s post!).

I’ve been feeling pretty good since we arrived, so we decided to adventure to Paris this weekend to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary a few days early!

Another thing I’m thankful for today is the opportunity to have treatment at Infusio. I hope sharing my experience with whoever is willing to read my blog, finds it helpful, and it encourages you to be adventurous too!

How about you? What are some of life adventures that you’re thankful for? Share them with me in the comments.

Guten Tag from Frankfurt!

My first infusion

My first treatments at Infusio are complete! So far, it’s been less “scary” than I anticipated. The clinic looks just like it does on their website, very serene and calming. My wonderful husband spent the first day with me, which was super awesome because I had no idea what to expect.

We met Jasmin, the executive assistant who helped coordinate my visit. The doctor at the clinic, Michael Wittstadt, is also very nice, and answers any questions about the infusions and treatments. He’s been quite busy these first two days because the nurse who usually assists him is out sick. Continue reading

The Lufthansa flight map

After 16 hours of travel, we safely arrived in Frankfurt. I saved money on our flight by using miles from San Francisco to New York but it made for a very long day! Thankfully, we have a direct fight home.

This was my first time flying with Lufthansa, and it was a really great experience. The plane was 747-800, it was ginormous, and super nice! We had free movies, food, and they even offered a glass champagne to everyone shortly after take off. They handed out warm wet napkins prior to serving food, and their airplane food was decent. If you ever find yourself traveling to Germany, try Lufthansa!

Getting through customs at the airport took only about five minutes and we easily found the driver from Infusio. I had no idea where we were staying since the apartments at Infusio were already booked. Thankfully, the apartment at the Couva Boarding House is in nice area of Frankfurt know as Nordend. There is a small grocery store across the street, and a variety of restaurants and cafes within a block. There is also a nice children’s playground near the entrance to Couva, complete with a merry-go-round and ping-pong table. Here’s some picture of the apartment. Continue reading
