After Infusio – Three Month Update

I made it to a important post treatment milestone……90 days since Infusio!

From what I understand, within the first six months after treatment “side effects” can occur, but typically they occur in the first 90 days. These “side effects” can be minor fatigue, or severe flu-like symptoms.

Thankfully, the past three months have been fairly uneventful!

As I mentioned in my two month update, I was trying to rest more. Since then, I’ve embraced being more of a “sleeper.” I’ve been really good at getting 8 hours of sleep, and sometimes I squeeze in 8 1/2 to 9 hours! This means my head usually hits the pillow at 9:30 or 10:00 pm.

I prefer to be an early riser, rather than I late nighter. I used stay up late, and sleep in later; I found that since I began building our urban homestead, getting up early is really helpful. It gives me more daylight hours to get things done!

Thankful Thursday #17 – January

The new year has started off pretty darn good! Enjoy the eleven things I was thankful for this month!

  1. Continuing to feel good after my treatment for late stage Lyme disease at Infusio. I’ve passed the 90 day mark! I’ll be sharing my 90 day update next week.
  2. Celebrating my friend, Candy’s grand opening of her all organic, boba tea cafe, Tea Lyfe Drinks. If you live near San Jose, CA it’s worth the drive to sample her original creations. I make the 30 minute drive from my house, it’s that good!

The ultimate “Mom-preneur”, Candy, I think she will be one of Forbes 30 under 30! She opened this cafe in 5 months, while being a great wife, and awesome mom to her cute baby boy!

  3. Nothing broke during a 4.4 magnitude earthquake! I still get shaken up, even when they are small  quakes!
  4. The wonderful conversations I’ve had with people about Infuiso. They’ve been a blessing to me!
  5. After not buying clothes or shoes for myself for almost a year, scoring a pair of cute Converse for $20! IMG_5784
  6. Getting accepted into the Nutrition Consultant program at Bauman College!
  7. Having fun with my husband as we rediscovered how fun it is to paint at Petroglyph. Here’s a cute garden gecko girl he painted. IMG_5783
  8. Having my Lyme story shared on LEAF’s Facebook page, and the nice emails Lizzie sent me! If you’d like to share your Lyme story contact Lizzie via her Facebook page.
  9. Realizing the bees in Verbena colony left their hive instead of dying off. I’m glad they are still living somewhere!
  10. The amazingly warm weather we’ve been having! I am hopeful the rain will return in February!IMG_5830
  11. My husband’s birthday on January 30th, and he has the day off to celebrate!

What are you thankful for this month? Share with me!

First Year Beekeeping Lessons Learned

IMG_4504

One of my bees enjoying some honey last summer.

Last February, I excitedly decided to give beekeeping a try. Two months later, I was bringing home my first package of bees! You can read more about that fun day here.

If you’re interested in giving beekeeping a try, this time of year is a perfect time to do your research, and if you decide to go for it, to get your supplies. You can read about how much my first year supplies cost here. It’s easy to find packages of bees for sale via a web search, or contact a local bee guild for bees from your local area.

Speaking of bee guilds, I highly recommend finding out if you have a local beekeeping guild. This website has a comprehensive list, however I didn’t see my local guild. If you don’t see your area listed, do a web search for your city or counties name with “beekeepers guild” after it. Another important thing is to check your city ordinances. Many cities and counties allow beekeeping but may require a permit.

I’ve learned a lot my first year! I hope you find this post helpful and it encourages you to give beekeeping a try! Continue reading
